Tanzania (2012)- Sustainable Housing Unit - project funded by Greencontributor
As part of a UNAI-supported initiative with BNCA, GreenContributor partnered with Savannah Plains International School and the Shinyanga town planning authority to build a sustainable housing unit and provide environmental education. BNCA students worked alongside the community, and municipal authorities to design and construct a low-income prototype house for a family of seven, using locally sourced red mud blocks and emphasizing practical spatial design, low maintenance, and capacity building. The program also included visits to Lake Victoria and environmental workshops, fostering community development, local skills, and long-term innovation.

Zambia (2013) - Community Learning Center and brick making initiative, Kapila Village, Lusaka - project funded by Greencontributor
In June 2013, GreenContributor supported a hands-on community development program in Kapila Village, transforming the rural region with no electricity. Students from Symbiosis School of Management helped with initial survey, and later students from BNCA (College of Architecture) designed and helped initiate the construction of a sustainable multi-use community block (it was supposed to serve as a learning center, entrepreneurship hub, and teacher accommodation). Built with locally made interlocking mud bricks (Greencontributor helped with funds to by the brick-making machine) and incorporating recycled glass bottle walls, the center features a kitchen, washroom, and open courtyard for community activities, empowering the village toward self- sustainability and educational development.

Zambia (2014) Dry compost toilet, Kapila Village- project funded by Greencontributor
As part of its community development initiatives, GreenContributor funded and introduced a dry compost toilet to improve sanitation and hygiene in Kapila Village. Students from BNCA studied UDDT systems with the Ecosan Services Foundation, Pune, India, and GreenContributor sponsored the travel and stay of an engineer to oversee the construction. Students conducted awareness exercises to ensure proper use. Built using local resources and inaugurated by community leaders, the system not only saves water but also produces fertilizer and compost, empowering the community with sustainable sanitation solutions.

Jamaica (2014)- Constructing library and reading room using shipping containers – funded by Greencontributor and community
Students from BNCA, Pune (India) designed repurposed shipping containers to serve as classrooms, libraries, and reading rooms for Barrack Road Primary School in Montego Bay, Jamaica—an innovative response to limited space. Their viable design was presented to government and tourism officials, earning strong endorsement and funding support ($3,000 from GreenContributor and $2,000 from a local donor). The refurbished container spaces were completed within a month after handing over the work to be supervised by students from University of West Indies, offering a scalable model for other schools.

Slovenia (2015) - Urban Design workshop– Maribor
GreenContributor, BNCA, DEMOLA Slovenia, and RAZUM organized a workshop to explore innovative urban design approaches and participatory, sustainable landscapes. Architecture students from BNCA and students from Slovenia, Belgium, Spain applied design thinking to develop site-specific concepts, including rooftop garden solutions for arid climates. The workshop combined research, rapid concept design, and collaborative presentations, fostering cross-cultural learning and actionable ideas for sustainable urban futures.

Emergency Shelter Innovation Program - GreenContributor × DEMOLA
Phase I – Workshop - Concept Development – India (2016) GreenContributor sponsored DEMOLA experts to deliver an intensive innovation workshop for two leading architecture colleges in Mumbai, India. The program challenged students to reimagine emergency shelter solutions for disasters and humanitarian crises, emphasizing creativity, practicality, and human- centered resilience. Phase II – Design Development & Prototyping – Europe (2016-17) Hungary - 2016 The design phase continued in Hungary (2016) where DEMOLA and students from BNCA (Pune, India) and BME (Budapest, Hungary) co-created scalable, modular, and transportable shelter systems using recycled and versatile materials. Supported by MEGAPLAST, teams built full-scale prototypes, gaining hands-on engineering experience and navigating real-world constraints. The program promoted cross- cultural collaboration, aligned with UNAI goals, and produced designs recognized for their innovation and manufacturing potential. It received strong positive feedback, and concluded with an official presentation to the Indian Ambassador in Budapest.

Serbia (2017)
Students from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia and BNCA, India collaborated in a hands-on workshop to design and build experimental emergency shelter prototypes using folding structures and flat-pack assembly. The focus was on creating stable, foldable shelters with raised floors while exploring geometry, rigid origami principles, and prototype fabrication. Students gained practical skills in structural design, rapid prototyping, and collaborative problem-solving, applying innovative architectural thinking to real- world constraints of materials, scale, and transportability.

Tunisia (2017) - Landscape Design & Cultural Exploration – Ibn Khaldoun University, Tunis
GreenContributor helped arrange a collaboration between faculties from Slovenia, India and Tunisia to design a specialized landscape intervention program for the School of Architecture at Ibn Khaldoun University to help reimagine its currently limited green and recreational spaces. Students began with an on-campus assessment and concept development, followed by a curated study tour across key Tunisian cities known for their distinctive landscapes and design heritage. By experiencing the country’s diverse ecological character and cultural identity firsthand, participants gained inspiration and practical insights. Returning to the university, they spent two intensive days refining and developing their landscape proposals, transforming observations into actionable, context-sensitive design solutions.

Morocco (2019) - Sustainable Strategies for Affordable Housing
Helped arrange the coordination between National Ecole Architecture University (Rabat) & BNCA (Pune, India) for a 2 day International Workshop on redesigning housing units based on energy compliance codes of Morocco

Zambia (2011-12)- Solar school – Kapila village
As part of a GreenContributor-funded initiative, students from the USA traveled to Zambia to collaborate with peers from the International School of Lusaka and Rhodes Park School. The project addressed challenges such as poor attendance, no electricity, and students needing to work to support their families. GreenContributor funded solar panels, batteries, and laptops, while parents contributed to the initiative. The improvements transformed the school into a magnet for learning, enabling students to attend regularly and providing adults with electricity to charge devices and use the classrooms for evening adult education programs.

Tanzania (2012-13) Lake Victoria, Tanzania
As part of GreenContributor’s service learning initiative, students visited Lake Victoria to study the local environment, interact with fishermen, and understand the economic and ecological challenges of the region, including the impact of illegal fishing. The program also included environmental education, with presentations, documentaries, and hands- on projects such as the Tyre Project, where students painted donated tyres and planted saplings, promoting ecological awareness, sustainability, and community engagement.

Jamaica: (2013-14)
Business students from Symbiosis Business School traveled to Jamaica to assist the teachers in app development project and Greencontributor and Mrs Elsie Fostera councillor (currently Mayor of Highland Park NJ, USA, (since 2023) donated tablets to Barrack Road Primary School.
